Founded in 2023, the Tunney Song Tradition Trust is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the collected works of Paddy Tunney, affectionately remembered as “The Man of Songs”.
Through research, publication, and performance, the Trust seeks to share as widely as possible a deep love for the rich singing traditions passed down through generations.
A family affair, our multi-generational trust works to ensure the continuation of the songs and stories that evokes memories of past celebrations and gatherings whilst guaranteeing their presence at all yet to come.
Our Story
At its core, the Trust exists to honour and sustain a living tradition. By safeguarding Paddy Tunney’s body of work and the wider song heritage it represents, we aim to ensure that these songs continue to be heard, learned, and cherished.
Our work is guided by the belief that traditional song is not something fixed in the past, but something that lives and grows through sharing.
Our Purpose
We aim to bring the singing tradition to life through a range of activities:
Research: Exploring and documenting the collected works and context of the songs.
Publication: Sharing material through books, recordings, and digital platforms.
Performance: Presenting songs in ways that connect past and present audiences.
Each strand of our work reflects a commitment to authenticity, accessibility, and continuity. Most importantly, we sing, share and enjoy a tradition that has been handed down through generations of our family.
What We Do
The songs carried through generations evoke memories of past celebrations, gatherings, and shared histories. They connect people across time and place, offering a powerful sense of identity and belonging.
By preserving and promoting these traditions, the Trust helps ensure their presence not only in memory, but in the voices and lives of those yet to come.
Why It MattersJoin UsWe welcome all who share a love of or an interest in traditional song, whether you are a singer, listener, researcher, or supporter. Together, we can keep these songs alive, ensuring they continue to be sung, shared, and celebrated for generations to come.
