The Bonnie Blued-Eyed Lassie

Source: Where The Linnets Sings (2026)

Location: Track 17

How can I live at the top of a mountain.

With no money in my pocket and no gold for to be countin’.

I would let the money go all for to win my true love’s fancy,

For I will marry none but my bonnie blue-eyed lassie.

She’s my bonnie blue-eyed lassie with an air so sweet and tender,

A walk like swan afloat and her waist so neat and slender.

Her golden hair in ringlets rare falls down her snow-white shoulders,

And I’ll ask her if she’ll marry me, and no man could be bolder.

Some people say that she is very low in station,

And other people say she will be the cause of my ruination.

But let them all say what they will, to her I will prove constant still.

Until the day I die she’ll be my own lovely lady.

Lightly swims the swan o’er the dark waters of Eochaill,

And blithely sings the nightingale so happy to behold her.

The wind doth blow, the moorcocks crow, the moon she shines so deeply,

But deeper by far is my love for my own lady.
