The Knight Templar’s Dream

As Morpheus my senses in slumber did drown,

I dreamt I was climbing Horeb’s holy mound,

Where Moses was chosen Grand Master in love,

By the Great architect in Heaven above.

With trembling fear and wonder I did gaze,

To see a bush a’ burning all by a mighty blaze.

My bones they did shudder and feeble was my frame,

When a dreadful fiery serpent right forward to me came.

I looked at death approaching with terror, dread and grief,

Then called on Goodness to grant me some relief,

When to my astonishment a voice unto me said:

“Come, take up the serpent and do not be afraid.”

I then became a pilgrim to travel night and day.

I took the Rod of God to guide me on my way,

Over high hill and mountains, bound for the Temple bright,

Till I came to Jerusalem, that city of delight.

I say the Knights of Malta in shining armour bright

Surround the Sons of Darkness that cast away the light.

I crossed the rover Jordan and Jericho likewise,

To lovely Mount Sion where sweet odours scent the skies.

I enlisted as a soldier to fight for Christian liberty,

Against the Turk and Heathen and all idolatry.

To all our faithful batteles Jehovah lent a hand

To Gideon, Beeve and Joshua who caused the sun to stand.

I travelled over Mount Ararat and fair Armenia’s land,

From that to Enoch’s Temple where I saw two pillars grand.

I knocked upon the gasper gates, admittance there I sought,

Through many coloured arches till I found the sacred font.

With torches burning round me in one continuous blaze,

Where I say the mystery and on it in awe did gaze.

When to my astonishment two fiery dragons came,

And at the height of my surprise, I woke out of my dream.
