The Tunney Song Tradition Trust offers its heartfelt thanks to all those who welcomed the project into their homes and recording spaces, and to the many supporters and facilitators whose generosity, encouragement and practical help made this collection possible.

Recordings

  1. The recordings of Brigid Tunney (nee Gallagher), Annie Meehan, Michael Gallagher, Maureen Melly, Annie Lunny and Mick Tunney were made for the BBC in 1952/’53 by Seán O Boyle and Peter Kennedy. The recording of Johnny Lovely Johnny by Paddy Tunney was also done during that period.

  2. Diane Hamilton recorded Paddy singing The Mountain Streams Where The Moorcocks Crow and Róisín Dubh in 1955. These recordings were included in the LP Paddy Tunney: The Man of Songs published by Folk Legacy Records in 1962.

  3. The recording of Joe Tunney singing The Wearing’ of The Britches, and of Joe and Paddy singing A Soldier and A Sailor were made in EFDSS headquarters in Cecil Sharp House, London in 1957, by Peter Kennedy

  4. Maura and Cathal were recorded in 1990 in Edmonton, Alberta, by John and Liz Dorman.

  5. Michael Tunney were recorded by John Browne, The Reel Facility, Tralee.

  6. All other 1991 and 1992 recordings were done by Séamus MacMathúna at Cultúrlann na hÉireann, Dublin.

  7. The 2025 and 2026 recordings of Paddy Óg, Conall and Séamus Hickey were made by Iarlaith MacGabhann & Meabh Ó Raghallaigh in the ITMA, Dublin.

  8. Maria Tunney and Brigid Gosling’s recordings were made by Andrew South, London.

  9. The recording of Colm Hickey was made in B-Note Studios in Berne in Switzerland.

Where the Linnets Sing 2026, developed by the Tunney Song Tradition Trust with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, celebrates 75 Bliain ag Fás by bringing the original collection to a new online audience, enriched with fifteen additional tracks, eleven more voices and two further generations of the tradition.
